Meteor bright enough to be classified as a 'fireball' crossed the sky over eastern North America, on the night of Friday the day of March 22, 2013, becoming a spectacle witnessed by the least 13 American states, Washington DC and two Canadian provinces, reported the American Meteor Society.
The organization counted more than 300 witnesses in Ontario and Quebec, Canada, to the state of North Carolina, in the southern United States, and there are still more than 100 reports to be reviewed, said Mike Hankey, a member of the board. "It happened at a good time, around 20h on Friday, when many people could see it," said Robert Lunsford, coordinator of the entity.
The fireball was seen Friday at various points on the East Coast of the USA and even in some states without contact with the sea, as West Virginia and Ohio, the foundation said. The likely trajectory of the object showed that it came from east of Pennsylvania through New Jersey and south of the city of New York, turning then to the Atlantic Ocean, according to testimonies collected. "At first, I thought the fireball was a low flying plane," said a witness of Westchester, State of New York.
